The boxer career of Joe Joyce is very unusual, as he started serious boxing training in 2010 at the age of 25. However, he already ran some sports such as swimming, athletics, rugby and kickboxing. None of these sports but competitive sports. From time to time he coached boxing during his semester break at his university, where he eventually found so much favor that he joined the amateur boxing club (ABC) “Earsfiled” London and coached with the trainers Sid Khan and Andy Stables conscientiously.

Already in November 2011, he participated in the championship of Great Britain and won there super heavyweight with a demolition victory in the first round of the championship title. In April 2012 he was in this weight class with a points victory over Nick Webb (38:25), a non-combatant victory over Rocky Broadway and a points win over Frazer Clarke (5: 0 RS) also English champion (ABAE champion). In May 2012, he defeated Frazer Clarke again at the championship of Great Britain on points (37:36) and was again title holder of Great Britain. At the English ABAE Championship 2013, he did not participate because of the preparation for the European Championships in Minsk.

In May 2012, Joe Joyce also won for the first time at an international tournament. At the Box Belfast Tournament he won in the final of the super heavyweight over Dimitar Kosanow from Bulgaria. In October 2012, he also won the Tammer tournament in Helsinki in the super heavyweight division. He defeated Ross Henderson, Scotland, by points (21: 9), Martins Gavars, Latvia by a break in the first round and Con Sheehan, Ireland by points (20:16). From November 2012, he played for the “British Lionhearts” in the context of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) six fights against strong opponents, of which he won five.

In May 2013, he then participated for England at the European Championships in Minsk. In the super heavyweight he defeated while Milutin Stanković, Serbia (2: 1 RS) and Mikhail Bachtidse, Georgia (3: 0 RS) on points. In the semifinals, however, he had to accept a technical knockout defeat in the first round against Sergei Kusmin from Russia. He won an EM bronze medal. At the World Championships in the same year he retired but already in the first fight against Hamza Beguerni (Algeria) by knockout in the first round.

In 2014 Joyce won the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and in 2015 the European Games in Baku. At the 2015 World Championships in Doha, he won bronze, after he lost in the semi-final against Tony Yoka. On the way to the semi-final he defeated Mohamed Arjaoui, Morocco (3-0) and Ali Eren Demirezen, Turkey (3-0). In 2016, Joyce qualified with the victory in the European Olympic qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in the Rio de Janeiro. Et al He beat Məhəmmədrəsul Məcidov, Azerbaijan (2: 1). At the Olympics, he was able to fight his way to the final, where he was defeated again against Tony Yoka.
