On Friday May 29, 2015, Amir “King” Khan will put his world boxing championship welterweight title i line against Chris Algeri. The defense will be held at Barclay’s center . So far, Amir is the crowds favorite. Though Amir has been unable to secure a fight against boxing greats like Mayweather and Pacquiao, he has a chance to present his resume to the world in a bid to get an high profile fight later this year. If Amir wins this fight, he will be in a position to meet Mayweather before the pound-pound king retires.
In the last few years, Khan has won all his fights, four in a row. Recently, we witnessed Amir Beat Devon Alexander in December. Algeri on the other hand suffered his first professional loss against the punishing hands of Manny Pacquiao. In the Upcoming fight, Algeri is the underdog.
In the last three years, Amir has posted an amazing record. He has never lost a fight in those years. He has been hoping to secure fights with top fighters such as Mayweather or Pacquiao. In the first half of 2015, he has failed to secure a fight with these big wigs. But the Brit has not lost hope. He is still confident that if he wins this fight, he will be able to set up a fight against Mayweather, the biggest in his career.
On an interview with talkSPORT, Khan said that he was focused on winning this fight. He said that this win will put him in a position to go for a mega fight. He said that even though he has been in this position before, he feels that he is in a better position to win the fight.
In his last fight, Khan managed to win his last fight with an overwhelming judges decision of 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110 on the judges’ scorecards. In the fight, he managed to land 243 punches out of the 563 attempts
Chris Algeri on the other and has been on a very poor form. He lost his recent fight to the heavily favored Pac-man . He was knocked down six times throughout the fight he lost through a unanimous decision. He earned the fight with Pacquiao through a split decision win over the Ruslan Provodnikov last June.
The fight is expected to go for full 12 rounds. Algeri has the motivation and the drive. Even after getting knocked down 6 times, he had the guts to get up and fight the full fight.
