Saul Alvarez gives his fans the best knockout in 12 months.
Yesterday, Saul ‘Canelo” Alvarez proved to the world why he is one of the toughest boxing fighters of our era in yet another epic show down with hard hitting slugger James Kirkland. Three days ago, he had promised his fans a fantastic fight, and as always, he over delivered. He went on to win with a knockout that left James unconscious. The referee did not have to go through the count down as James was already out.
The fight was held at the Minute Maid park in Houston, in front of crowd of more than 30000 raucous fans, all baying for blood! With the crowd being pro Canelo, he did not disappoint. They witnessed their national hero scoring one of the best Knockouts in 2015.
As the fight started, Kirkland wasted no time coming forward with some heavy punches and controlling the action. Pushing Camelo to the side. At first, he seemed to be the best of the two but his recklessness and reputation as an offensive fighter who does not care much about defense cost him a win. Canelo came back with a right shot hand which dropped Kirkland with just one and a quarter minute to the end of the first round.
He tried to reciprocate, but no matter how hard he tried, Canelo gave him so heavy blows that nearly stopped the fight for nearly 3 minutes by the end of the opening round.
The begging of the second round still saw the Mexican control the fight. But after a minute or so, Kirkland took over forcing Canelo to fight defensive. He fired punch after punch, trying desperately to claw his way back into the fight but I did not do anything to the Mexican who shook his head repeatedly, showing lack of concern. Kirkland’s domination was short lived, as Canelo shot lethal combinations at the end of the 2nd round, reminding him who was really the king of the ring.
Alvarez decided to end the fight in style by knocking Kirkland down with a punishing right uppercut which signified the beginning of the end for the American. He then went ahead to punch once to the body and finished with a well placed uppercut that saw him flat on his back and into the world of unconsciousness. The referee did not have to count. He just finished the fight.
Alvarez’s knock out is one of the best in 2015, from the amazing fighting skill he displayed yesterday, we can comfortably say he his trainers were doing their homework during his recovery period.
