Valdez Crushes Tamayo by Unanimous Decision

Oscar Valdez, a 24 year old featherweight, put on a boxing clinic against 26 year old Ruben Tamayo Saturday night at the StubHub center in Carson, CA. Tamayo, a lefty, put up a strong effort against Valdez, but the quickness and agility of Valdez held strong as he wore down his opponent.
A former Mexican Olympian, Valdez was able to hold his own through ten rounds to earn a unanimous victory, even after Tamayo was credited with a knockdown in the first round. Valdez later said that he felt the knockdown was credited in error, saying I think “our feet got tangled up.” By the tenth round it was clear that Valdez was on a mission, throwing a series of punches that left Tamayo looking battered and a bit wobbly, Valdez was able to clinch the win.
After the fight Tamayo commented on the speed of Valdez, saying “He is a very fast fighter. He throws a lot of punches.”
