The win pushed Donaire up the rankings and certainly helps his cause in competing for another championship. The fight was pretty one-sided from the beginning as Donaire was able to drop Settoul to the ground during the first round twice.
First, it was a hard right hand that sent the French guy to the floor then it was a left uppercut to the ribs of Settoul once again put him out. Settoul stood up after those two hard blows but it was clear to everyone who was watching the fight that he was not going to last long. Donaire took advantage as he ended the fight with a big right hand to the face of Settoul that once again sent him crashing down to the canvas. Settoul’s corner knew that the fight was over from there so they threw in the towel hoping that Settoul would train harder and fight another day.
Donaire now has his eyes set on challenging WBA regular titleholder Scott Quigg in his next fight. The former five-division champion looked every bit of dominating against Anthony Settoul and it was a good decision by his corner to throw in the towel before more damage could be done to the poor guy. Donaire told reporters that he wants Quigg at Dubai and United Kingdom is not a bad option either.
Donaire was once considered a top fighter after winning fighter of the year three years ago. However, a couple of losses after that put a halt to his momentum and other fighters took the spotlight. He is looking better than ever though after that win against Anthony Settoul. If Donaire and Quigg clash for the title then it is expected to be a hit.
