Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr Weigh In

On Saturday, on of the boxing’s hottest stars, The undefeated WBA middle weight champion, the mighty Gennady Golovkin will be defending his title against Willie Monroe Jr aka “The Mongoose”.
Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr Fight

The fight will be taking place at the Fabulous forum in Inglewood, California. This venue was a favourite when boxing was on the peak of Its glory. The fight will be aired live on HBO at ten p.m ET/PT. Gennady, AKA “GGG” has made Abel Sanchez facility in big bear his training headquarters. As a fighter, he is popular because of his Mexican style all action approach to boxing. Many recognize him as a hardcore boxer.

Monroe on the other hand is a new kid on the block. He is not widely recognized by many casual boxing fans. Apart from this, he was a standout amateur who looked impressive over the last few years.

The fact that Golovkin is one of the best boxing acts today is made evident every time he steps on the ring. Both these two fighter have the same weight and height. But Golovkin is more compact and rugged of the two. To win this fight, Monroe will have to use his four -inch reach to the maximum.

This is a classic Southpaw-Orthodox Match up. Monroe has a very tricky style. He will be able to give Golovkin the kind of heat he does not receive frequently in his career. Gennady comes to the ring with a very impressive form. He has a 19-fight knockout. This record stretches way back in June 2008. He has fought top tier fighters like Martin Murray, Daniel Gael, Matthew Macklin and many more. This makes Golovkin one of boxing’s most avoided fighter.

Willie Monroe is a credible contender, but he does not have the resume to back him up. Apart from being an outstanding amateur and having strong boxing family, he has nothing else to flaunt. Willie Monroe Jr. is a credible contender at middleweight, even if he has not compiled a resume.

This looks like an easy fight for Golovkin. Given his experience and the trail of destruction he has left behind, Monroe will need more than luck to win this fight. But Monroe does not have to win this fight, Just being in the ring with Golovkin his enough for him. But you should watch out for him though. If the skill he displayed in the last year and half is anything to go by, Golovkin should be worried.
