Former welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter and Adrien Broner will fight it out for Ohio bragging rights in a 12 round bout that will take place in the MGM Grand arena in Las Vegas on June 20th 2015. This will be the main event aired live on NBC prime time (8:30 p.m. ET). The fight is being organized by Tom Brown’s TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions on behalf of PBC founder Al Haymon. “It’s time for AB on NBC and I can’t wait for the opportunity,” said Broner, who won the co-feature of the first PBC on NBC card on March 7 when he easily outpointed John Molina. “This is a great fight that the fans wanted and I wanted. I’m going to come prepared and I’m going to put on a show. He went ahead to brag that he had never lost at the MGM Grand arena and he is not about to start. He also said that although porter is a strong guy and that porter is yet to face a fighter of his caliber.
Broner (30-1, 22 KOs), 25, a former three-division titleholder (welterweight, lightweight and junior lightweight), is 4-0 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. His only professional loss so far was suffered in the hands of Marcos Maidana where he lost his welterweight belt in a decision loss on December 2013. After this, he dropped to down to the junior welterweight so as to pursue another world title. In this weight class, he has won 3 fights in a row but faces a stiff competition from the 27 year old porter who is a career long welterweight and junior middle weight. On an interview porter was recorded saying that he was looking forward to fighting at the MGM arena. Porter outpointed Devon Alexander to win a world title in December 2013 and made one successful defense, a one-sided fourth-round knockout of former titleholder Paulie Malignaggi.
Last August, he faced mandatory challenger Kell Brook of England and lost the belt by majority decision. This fight will be very entertaining. We should expect it to go all the way to a unanimous decision for Broner. He has the home advantage, he has fought in MGM arena for 4 times now without a loss and am not expecting him to lose, not on Saturday anyway. Even though porter is a great fighter, he does not have what it takes to go up against a fighter Of Broner’s quality.
